This post is a little nostalgic and bittersweet for me. This is the home that my family and I have lived, loved, and yes, remodeled in for the last 6+ years. My kids grew from babies to big kids here! It holds a special place in my heart, and I will always reflect on this chapter of our lives with fondness. I am excited about seeing what life holds next for us! So, without further ado, I give you the culmination of the last 6 years.
The front was a Tennessee jungle! (That was my cute baby- now a hulking 7 year old!)
Most of the downstairs was covered in wall to wall white carpeting. VERY dirty white carpeting.
Oh that before kitchen. Outdated, very hard to remove wall border. Bad colors. Dark blue laminate counters. Dirty tile.
Light, bright, airy. One of my favorite transformations of the house.
The before master bath.
After. We changed out all the hardware and fixtures to oil rubbed bronze. Added an updated vanity with 2 sinks (note there was only 1 before), white subway tile tub surround, added over the toilet built in storage, cute light fixtures and, voila!
Dining room before. Dark, very difficult to paint over teal walls. Wall to wall carpeting. Dinky little light fixture. Unnecessary doors. We removed the doors, added a unique chandelier, wainscoting, repainted, and added hardwood flooring.
Front hall light fixture before and after.
Jungle mural…gone! It was right where the piano is.
I love the after vanity with marble! And the non broken toilet.
The kids room before. Large and dirty. After? Large and clean with new paint, carpet, and lighted ceiling fan.
Master bedroom before where someone had stepped through the ceiling in the attic. After? Pretty master bedroom with no hole.
Upstairs jack and jill bath. Added bead board, updated light fixtures, faucets, painted, new toilet, new cabinet hardware, etc.
This “brick” room was most difficult. The painter over sprayed the orange speckled paint mixture all onto the ceiling and door frames, and the wall paper portion was difficult to remove. We repainted, added new carpet, new oil rubbed bronze hardware, new faux wood blinds, and a new lighted ceiling fan.
More wall paper border removed. Repainted, new carpet, new faux wood window blinds, oil rubbed bronze hardware, new light fixture.
And here are some fun miscellaneous pictures that some of you may remember and that help paint the picture more completely of what we started with:
It was a dirty one for sure! But I am very proud of what it has transformed into, I’m proud that we were able to make it pretty again, and I have loved living here. I’ve watched Smyrna grow outside my doorstep and we hope that the next family loves it as much as we have.
